Math is Pattern Recognition.

Why Do You Need to Learn Math?

It's true you may not use algebra or geometry in your everyday life. However the study of math, like all other subjects, has one great benefit even if you don't regularly solve equations. It trains your brain to think better and faster. The study of math is a way to make neural connections no other field of study can provide allowing you to think in new ways and solve problems quickly and more effectively.

2008-2009 School Year:

The Holden School Math Department is currently headed by The classes are student centered. With the MCAS test ever-looming, each class is focused on the students needs. Many students come to The Holden School with at least some gaps in their math education. These gaps are often major hurdles to excelling and possibly enjoying math and passing the MCAS. With small class sizes and a staff to student ratio of no more then 1:4, the students are given lessons aimed at their individual needs. Review material is presented and practiced before new material is introduced. The new material always directly incorporates recently reviewed material. This helps to fill any gaps the students may have, reinforce math basics, and prepare students for the MCAS, while all the time training their brains to recognize patterns.
