T-Shirt Time
T-shirt designing has become an annual event at the school. The students look forward to the end of the school year to be able to create their own t-shirt designs. This year we have many new students, and I am looking forward to seeing your creativity come alive, in designing a school appropriate t-shirt. Let's all have some FUN, while learning at the same time!

Create your own yearbook page
With the school year approaching soon, all students will create their own yearbook page, using Microsoft Publisher to be put together in a yearbook with all classmates pages.

March is National Women's History Month, your assignment is to put together a flyer using Microsoft Publisher on one woman that has made a positive impact on your life. All flyers will be displayed in the hall for everyone to view. You must have three photos, three text boxes hyperlinked to where you retrieved your resources from the Internet, and one text box describing why you chose the woman you did.

As recently as the 1970's, women's history was virtually an unknown topic in the K-12 curriculum or in general public consciousness. To address this situation, the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women initiated a "Women's History Week" celebration for 1978. We chose the week of March 8 to make International Women's Day the focal point of the observance. The activities that were held met with enthusiastic response, and within a few years dozens of schools planned special programs for Women's History Week, over one-hundred community women participated in the Community Resource Women Project, an annual "Real Woman" Essay Contest drew hundreds of entries, and we were staging a marvelous annual parade and program in downtown Santa Rosa, California.

In 1987, the National Women's History Project petitioned Congress to expand the national celebration to the entire month of March. Since then, the National Women's History Month Resolution has been approved with bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. Each year, programs and activities in schools, workplaces, and communities have become more extensive as information and program ideas have been developed and shared.

Evaluating Web Sites
The Internet offers information from all over the world. Because so much information is available, and because that information can appear to be fairly “anonymous”, it is necessary to develop skills to evaluate what you find.
The most important factors when evaluating Web sites is your search, and your needs. What are you using the Web for?

Consider the following questions:
Is this site a good source for the information you need?

Was the page worth visiting?

Do you have good reason to believe that the information on the site is accurate?

Are the facts documented?

Who are the authors and who is responsible for the site?

What is their expertise?

What is their bias?

What is the site's purpose or point of view?

Was the page designed for the Web, or is it something else, such as a government document or a journal article?

With the’ ability to retrieve information from the Internet with two clicks of a mouse, Plagiarism has become a big issue in Education. Are students merely copy & pasting, or are they actually learning?

Copyright is a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U. S. Code) to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works.

Peer to Peer Sharing (p2p) of music and videos has become a big problem for the Recording Industry Association of America. Websites such as Lime Wire and Ares allows you to upload and share just about anything, however the industry is fighting back.

Jammie Thomas was sued by the (RIAA) for alleged music pirating and illegal sharing of songs. The court ruled she pay the RIAA $220,000. She is a 30-year-old single mom from Brainerd, MN with an annual income of $36,000. She is the process of appealing this decision.

The RIAA's ludicrous 'Clean Slate' amnesty program and their ‘incriminate yourself’ web site is hilarious, how many students do you think will admit they’ve been ‘illegally’ downloading copyrighted songs, and pay the big corporations like Sony BMG and Warner Music for illegal downloading?

The RIAA is offering amnesty from copyright enforcement to individuals residing in the United States who have, or who believe that they may have, illegally downloaded or distributed copyrighted sound recordings on peer-to-peer networks. Looks like greed is peeking out again. Read all about it...

If the RIAA has contacted you, check out this link you may need it, and in no way should you contact them without a lawyer, they will get your IP address and use it against you.

Our first assignment is to choose three goals for remainder of 2008. We will insert our goals into an inspiration document, while also presenting how you will reach your goals. Map out your future, and then motivate yourself to live it!
